New Mini Woolies launches at Community Bridging Services (CBS) Inc. to support young people with disabilities
Friday, 04 April 2025: Woolworths and Community Bridging Services (CBS) Inc. have collaborated to launch a new Mini Woolies in Port Pirie, creating an immersive, simulated supermarket environment designed to support the learning journey of young people with disabilities.
The newly established Mini Woolies has been set up to simulate the experience of a Woolworths supermarket, complete with baskets for fresh produce, fully stocked shelves, ticketing, signage and Woolworths branded aprons. The space also features two registers, allowing participants to practise money handling skills and processing a transaction.
This unique learning environment will be utilised by participants in CBS Inc.’s “Beyond. Making it Happen!” program, a registered NDIS disability service provider. The program focuses on equipping candidates with the skills and confidence necessary to prepare for future employment and independent living.
General Manager of Enterprise Operations and the Mini Woolies Program at Woolworths Group, Sarah Corey: “We are excited to bring Mini Woolies to Port Pirie and partner with CBS Inc. We hope this new space will provide a unique and engaging learning experience, empowering participants to build confidence, develop practical skills and achieve their personal and professional goals.”
CBS Inc. has been operating since 1996. Starting small with recreation and art programs for people with a disability, the organisation has grown to support participants all over South Australia in the areas of open employment, recreation, NDIS Supports, Social Enterprises and Further Education.
Founder and Executive Director of CBS Inc., Freddie Brincat OAM: “At CBS Inc., we love partnering with businesses like Woolworths, who see both the community impact and economic gain in training and potentially employing people with a disability that are so keen to work and contribute. This innovation is a start in an important region of SA, encouraging other businesses to follow the leadership shown by Woolworths, and we look forward to the future opportunities the new Mini Woolies will bring.”
Over the past few weeks, the Port Pirie Woolworths team generously contributed their time and expertise, assisting with the set up of groceries and register training with CBS Inc. participants, ensuring they are prepared to use the new space, located at 88A Main Road.
This new site joins three other Mini Woolies locations in South Australia and expands the program’s reach to over 95 sites across Australia and New Zealand, solidifying its commitment to supporting inclusive education and empowering young people with disabilities.
