CBS and the NDIS

Community Bridging Services (CBS) Inc. is a registered provider of supports with the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).  Provider Number 4050004574.

CBS ensures all our participants receive high quality, person-centred services. The supports provided by CBS include one-to-one and group activities. The main point of difference with CBS is the high staff to participant ratios, which ensures all the individuals’ needs are met.

CBS specialises in:

  • the provision of exciting and innovative social and recreational activities
  • supports which enable participants to actively engage in community events
  • supporting participants with all aspects of finding and maintaining employment

What is it?

Choices is a recreation and community integration program which focuses on developing participants’ independence, pre-employment skills, confidence and social skills with an emphasis on enjoyment and improving daily life skills.  Participants are in groups of three to no more than twelve with support from two to six staff.  

Currently CBS has 15 Choices Programs including two high support programs supporting people with multiple disabilities. Participants enjoy being involved in a combination of community based and centre based experiences.

Staff to Participant ratios
  • 1:3 for low to medium support
  • 1:2 for high support

Unlike many other disability support providers, CBS has a high staff to participant ratio, ensuring a better response to participants’ individual needs and goals.

Who can access these programs?

Anyone who is aged 18 years or older and has funding for assistance with daily life, social and community participation, improving relationships or learning in their NDIS package.

Cost

Funds will be taken from your NDIS package to cover your involvement with our program.  You also have the option of self-funding.

Do I need a referral?

To access these programs you need to have an NDIS plan (unless you are self-funding).

What is it?

Socialize offers a day options alternative with participants involved in a wide range of activities, e.g. swimming, sports events, art and craft, tending to their community garden, cooking and computer activities.

Who can access this program?

School leavers and young adults who have mild to moderate support needs and have funding for assistance with daily life, social and community participation, improving relationships or learning in their NDIS package.

Cost

Funds will be taken from your NDIS package to cover your involvement with our program.  You also have the option of self-funding.

To access this program you need to have an NDIS plan (unless you are self-funding).

Location

There are currently two Socialize groups, both based at the Lyons Road Community Centre.  As interest increases Socialize may expand to other metropolitan areas.

What is it?

These group programs have a focus on providing opportunities to increase personal and social skills through a range of community recreational experiences.  These groups include 12 outdoor adventure programs and a cooking program.

What is it?

CBS runs four art programs with small groups who explore various means of artistic expression including painting, drawing, photography and soft sculpture.  The programs are facilitated by a professional artist.

What is it?

ILS is a skills based program with a focus on shopping, budgeting and cooking a wide variety of healthy meals.

Who can access these programs?

Anyone who is aged 18 years or older, with low to medium support needs, and has funding for skill development, assistance with daily life, social and community participation, improving relationships or learning in their NDIS package.

Cost

Funds will be taken from your NDIS package to cover your involvement with our program.  You also have the option of self-funding.

What is it?

Craft is an opportunity to make a wide variety of items, e.g. painting, beading, rug making, whilst learning new skills, having fun and making new friends with people who share similar interests.

Who can access these programs?

What is it?

Westenders is a social program operating on Thursday evenings for people living in the western suburbs.  Activities include dinners, BBQs and the movies.

Who can access these programs?

Anyone who is aged 18 years or older, with low to medium support needs, and has funding for assistance with daily life, social and community participation, improving relationships or learning in their NDIS package.

What is it?

This program provides an encouraging, learning environment with the aim of supporting participants to engage in positive social interactions and gain knowledge of different working environments and what’s involved in getting a job. Participants work on goal setting, computer skills, job search, interview preparation and mock interviews with a fun social activity at the end of each session.  This program is ideal for people with no experience of looking for employment or the working environment.

What is it?

This 7 week program provides participants with all the tools, resources and support needed to effectively compete for employment in today’s job market. Participants are assisted to produce a high quality resume and develop a wide range of job search skills, enabling them to successfully complete activities such as networking, application completion and interviewing. The Work Ready groups provide a supportive, friendly environment which enables participants to increase their confidence and self-esteem.  This program is ideal for those people who have some work experience, but need to increase their skills, confidence or self-esteem.

What is it?

This 8 week program focuses on working together as a team to find suitable employment. Finders Keepers also supports participants to gain the skills and techniques necessary to retain employment. The program includes presentations from guest speakers e.g. employers and people with disabilities who have gone through similar job search experiences, and fun activities.  This program is ideal for people with some work experience and who are ready for employment.

Who can access these programs?

Anyone who is aged 18 years or older, with low to medium support needs, and has funding for assistance with finding and keeping a job, improving learning or improving relationships in their NDIS package.
