Aim Wider
“CBS Inc. helped me to transition from working in an ADE into open employment for better pay and new opportunities. I feel incredibly lucky to be working in open employment, where the positive culture makes me feel relaxed and I genuinely enjoy coming to work. I have been working in open employment for the last six and half years, and CBS Inc. have continued to support me during this time. Thanks to the CBS Inc. team!”- CBS Inc. Client
Aim Wider is a free program created to support people with a disability as they explore what’s possible beyond Australia Disability Enterprises (ADEs) or for people with disabilities who are unemployed and have a work capacity of 8 hours or less. Aim Wider runs one day per week, with sessions focused on work discovery, skills development, and personalised mentoring. We then provide open work experience opportunities so participants can experience something new in line with their interests and skills.
We believe systemic change is needed and programs such as Aim Wider will help to support this change. We’re seeing a welcome rise in disability-led social enterprises and inclusive hiring initiatives, but this work needs more visibility and support.
As part of the individualised service for Aim Wider participants, we will help to explore the most appropriate referral pathways and supports in consultation with the participants support networks. Additional employment supports are available through NDIS or from Disability Employment Services (DES) soon to be Inclusive Employment Australia (IEA). The goal is to make sure no one is left behind once they get a job!
Designed specifically for adults working in an ADE or have a NDIS Plan and/or receive DSP and have a work capacity of 8 hours or less.

Session content includes:
- What is Open Employment
- CBS Inc. Moonlight Speaker journey
- ‘Career Voyage’ – an introduction to a career mapping tool
- Career Action Plan and Career Goal Setting
- Creating a Resume
- Employability Skills
- Available services to support your journey into open employment
- Micro-enterprise
- Planning your path forward
Consultation with Participant and Support Networks:
Sessions will be followed by a one-on-one consultation with you and your support network to provide tailored information on the supports available specifically to you and the open employment interests identified throughout the program. The Aim Wider team will assist participants to linking to relevant open employment programs if interested.
Work Discovery and Experience:
Using the career goals identified throughout the program, four days of supported work experience will be organised based on the interests of the individual. Work experience days can be divided to suit each person’s needs.
After the program, participants will have a clear understanding on how to transition to open employment, with an individualised plan suited to their needs.
A Reference group has also been established to provide feedback about the program. The reference group is composed of people with lived experience, including those identifying as CALD or Aboriginal, and it is chaired by an independent advocate, Dr. June Alexander from Flinders University. They will provide feedback on a range of topics such as the program structure, materials and evaluation among others.
