CBS Inc. “Chirrup” SALA Exhibition Launch
This is the 22nd exhibition of artists with a disability managed by CBS or with CBS as a partner. CBS Inc is a not-for-profit organisation supporting people with a disability achieve success by working together to plan their future, achieve personal goals and improve quality of life. One of the many highlights was Cecelia Clarke and Bruce Rodenrys partnership with artist Bronwyn Platten in the 1998, 11th Sydney Biennale titled “Everyday”. The Biennale organisers were interested in the collaboration of a professional artist like Bronwyn, with so termed “outside artists” being Cecelia and Bruce. This was later followed up in an article in Arts & Australia in 2011 and continues to be discussed. When does outsider art become mainstream?”
Chirrup is a continuation of that commitment to art by artists with a disability and reflects a positive spin celebrating diversity, colour, complexity and life. Freddie Brincat OAM, CBS Inc Executive Director said “The exhibition is this year’s contribution to SALA, held in a community gallery where art and diversity is both respected and celebrated. With us, our partners at Eastwood Community Centre and the City of Burnside flourish in collaboration and support. This process then ensures the talent and dedication by the artists is both seen, heard and celebrated.”
CBS has invested in art programs since 1988 and currently runs four weekly sessions at Eastwood Community Centre, Broughton Art Society (facilitated by professional artist Hans Kreiner) and Salisbury East Neighbourhood House (facilitated by Merv Chapman). The artists develop their skills and interests with the guidance of professionals.
As a community partner, CBS Inc. is keen to present our 2017 SALA exhibition Chirrup, featuring works by 25 artists. Chirrup will be officially opened by Rick Neagle, President, Dignity Party and Chairman of Count Me In Inc- feel welcomed to attend.
