Introducing Beyond SACE, a new initiative from CBS Inc.
CBS Inc. launches Beyond SACE, an innovative employment skills program for high school students available from 2024
Community Bridging Services (CBS) Inc. proudly announces the upcoming launch of Beyond SACE, a community learning program for high school students with disability or disadvantage. Enrolment is now open for 2024. CBS Inc. has been supporting South Australian people with disabilities for 27 years and is pleased to extend its services to high school students further. Based on our successful Beyond. Making it Happen! program for young adults to prepare for open employment and independent living, Beyond SACE gives high school students with disabilities up to 40 SACE credits towards their Year 11 and Year 12 study.
Beyond SACE is composed of two units.
- Work Discovery is a Year 11 subject that prepares high schoolers to find and apply for open employment that suits their skills and personality.
- Work Fit is a Year 12 subject that teaches students to be effective employees in any kind of job.
Each unit runs for two school terms and has 20 SACE credits attached, equating to one full-year school subject. Students that take both Beyond SACE units will earn 40 out of the 200 credits needed to get their SACE by the end of Year 12, giving them a head start in the competitive job market.
The purpose of Beyond SACE is to help high school students with disabilities or disadvantage transition from school into jobs in the open labour market with greater choice and control, rather than restricting to sheltered employment within Australian Disability Enterprises (ADEs). It also gives students a natural transition into Disability Employment Services (DES), including the effective CBS Inc. Jobnet Employment Program, which was praised by Amanda Rishworth MP, Minister for Families and Social Services in the July launch of the Australian Government’s new Disability Employment Services (DES) Quality Framework.
Freddie Brincat (OAM) CBS Inc. Founder and Executive Director said “Our staff are committed to applying our successful strengths-based approach to teaching and guiding students’ future career options that includes further education. Our goal is to support people to aim higher with their job expectations and provide the resources and support to help each person achieve their goals by working in partnership with students, their families and schools. It’s a good opportunity to do more and hopefully grow the program over time.”
Beyond SACE in 2024 is initially running from two CBS Inc. locations: Beyond Metro at 311 Wakefield St Adelaide and Beyond Murray Bridge at 18 South Tce right near popular retail outlets and South Australia’s iconic river.
